Food Storage Analyzer

Did you know there's a cool new tool to help you analyze your food storage? I just used it and was reminded of just how much food storage we don't have. For example, our amount of cereals, grains and pastas would last us for 25.17 days. That's not entirely surprising since I haven't really purchased any long-term storage items since we moved to Arizona. And we've added two kids since then. You can also enter grocery store canned food (which is more of what we have) and ours will last us 31.26 days. It also lets you put in the quantities of what you would like to buy and gives you the cost. It's a pretty neat tool. I need to be more focused on our food storage and this is a great way to help me keep it all figured out.

Notice!

Hayden has been quite upset with me lately because he was just positive that while he wasn't home, I let someone into our house who had a cat, and I let the cat play on his bed, and now it's covered in cat fluff, and of course he can't sleep there because he's "allergic" to cats and he just gets itchy and sneezy when he lays down.

So he posted this on our front door to make sure it never happens again.Looks like we need to work on his capital 'N.'

P.S. Just between you and me, I'm pretty sure the "cat fluff" was a result of Jared eating popcorn on Hayden's bed.

Piano Player

Hayden and Jared are a bit jealous that Kyle gets to have piano lessons and so they've started giving themselves lessons. Hayden actually plays some pretty good "songs." Allison apparently wants to get in on the act and is teaching herself to play as well.

Jared's Stitches

*Kind of graphic pictures ahead. Feel free to skip this post*

Jared wanted us to get a picture of his stitches and his "bandaid." We have to change the bandage twice a day so he has fun picking out what color he wants next. (FYI: you can only get the colored bandages at the pet stores.) He walks on his tip-toes and has gotten quite fast running that way too. The doctor says it's healing really quickly and he can get the stitches out on Saturday. Yay!

Edited to add: Jared is a legend down at the Pediatric Urgent Care. When we went in for his "wound check" on Monday, the guy that took his vitals said, "Oh, is this the boy who severed his artery? The doctor told me all about him." Yep, he's that boy!

Allison and the Oreo

Thanks to Jared, Allison found an Oreo behind the curtains and enjoyed quite a bit of it before I realized what she was into. So of course I grabbed the camera and let her finish what she started.

October 10, 1969

Richard Nixon was in his first year as U.S. President.

Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin had just walked on the moon.

The national debt was a mere $365.8 billion.

A first-class stamp cost $.06

Sesame Street made its television debut.

The NY Jets won the Super Bowl.

And Margaret Baadsgaard and Jerrol Syme were married in the Manti Temple.

I wish I had one of their wedding pictures to post here, but sadly their photographer's shop burned down and their negatives were lost before they could get any prints made. They have a few proofs, but that's it. (Right, Mom?) So here's one of the few pictures I have of them on my computer.
Happy 40th Anniversay Mom and Dad!

Hey, at least I didn't use this picture. Oh wait... *giggle*

I Should Have Known...

I should have known when I dumped Allison's baby rice on the kitchen floor, spilled laundry detergent on the washer, and Jared knocked his cereal off the table that it was going to be a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. And boy it was! It rained at the bus stop, Jared spilled his fishy crackers on the floor, I gouged my pinkie and had a metal shard hit me *that close* to my eye while removing Kyle's old bedroom door, and then while having fun ripping out our ugly fireplace, Jared got his foot sliced open by a tile that slipped out of the wheelbarrow. It was gushing blood pretty good, but it stopped rather quickly after we applied pressure. So we put a big band-aid on it and laid him down and all seemed okay at that point. But when he got up and walked around, it started bleeding heavily again. So off to urgent care we went. Four hours and 10 stitches later we finally came home. Turns out he severed the main artery in his foot. And he wasn't at all cooperative with the doctors and nurses - he had a conniption fit as they we just trying to clean the wound. So when it came time to do the sutures, they had to strap him down to a papoose board. He didn't like that one bit and cried so hard for so long he finally fell asleep just as they were finishing. And to top off our day, Kyle dropped a jar of applesauce on the kitchen floor right after we got home, so I got to clean up all the goop and glass. Luckily no one got hurt with that one. I'm so ready for this day to be over.
